Abstract

The use of wind turbines for generating electric energy in windy regions of different countries, converted to a fully commercial and inevitable process. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the situation of wind energy in Khuzestan province for wind turbine installation purpose. For this purpose, the wind speed data of selected weather stations (Bostan, Dezful, Behbahan, Abadan, Masjed-Soleiman and Ahvaz in Khuzestan province) in period 2001-2010 were obtained from Iran Meteorological Organization. These data were analyzed by Matlab software. The Wibull distribution function is used for replaced wind discrete data. The annual wind power density and other parameters of wind energy in high levels of 10, 20 and 50 meters were calculated and to estimate the wind speed at a height more than 10 meters the model one-seventh were used. The results shown that the Dezful, Ahvaz and Abadan stations, respectively, with the ability to generate 824, 232 and 225 KW of Electricity power are suitable for the installation of the commercial wind turbines farms. In regard to the installation of commercial wind turbines at a height of 50 meters, the rotor surface of 80 meters, accounting the maximum power factor, turbines energy production capabilities and electrical power, the stations of Dezful, Abadan and Ahwaz, respectively can provide power production 443, 125 and 121 KW per second. These regions are suitable for installing the commercial wind turbines.
