Abstract:
The industrial sector plays a pivotal role in Iran's economy, significantly contributing to employment creation and economic development. Economic value-added represents the value that companies add to their products and services, making it a critical measure of economic contribution. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the industrial sector have attracted considerable attention from policymakers and researchers due to their potential to generate significant economic value-added. However, the precise impact of these SMEs on national economic growth has not been thoroughly and systematically investigated.
This study aims to scientifically and rigorously examine the role of industrial SMEs as crucial drivers of Iran's economic growth. The primary objective is to analyze the impact of the economic value-added generated by these SMEs on the country's economic growth. To achieve this, the study employs a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach and utilizes relevant statistical data related to SMEs in Iran's industrial sector. The research methodology integrates both qualitative and quantitative approaches, with the target population comprising senior managers of SMEs in the city of Shiraz.
Data collection was conducted using both standardized and researcher-developed questionnaires, including a 28-item economic progress questionnaire and the Hadigol (2015) economic value-added questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS-27 and SmartPLS-3 software. The results revealed that the export component, in the context of economic progress, holds a relatively minor significance, especially when considering the role of SMEs, indicating that it requires further attention.
This research offers valuable practical insights for economic policymakers and industrial managers, emphasizing the need to strengthen the role of SMEs in Iran's economic landscape. The findings underscore the importance of enhancing the contribution of SMEs to economic development, particularly in the areas where their impact may be underappreciated.
