The potential of the emerging technologies in developing countries' pathways towards sustainable development is enormous and very promising. These technologies hold great potential for advancement in efficiency, cost-cutting, and service quality improvement and hence are likely to promote sustainable economic growth. This research prioritizes selected technologies using the MARCOS method based on their contribution to the achievement of SDGs. It seeks to answer which technologies hold the highest potential for developing countries to achieve the goals of sustainable development and what challenges hinder the implementation process. The data collection was comprehensive in approach, involving a literature review, government reports, expert surveys, case studies, and databases of innovation. Fifteen innovative technologies that related well to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and four criteria that dealt with implementation challenges specific to developing countries were identified and went into evaluation. Then, experts in the field rated these technologies, for which prioritization was made using the MARCOS model. The results show that the top three candidate technologies with high potentials to push developing countries toward sustainability are smart agriculture; therefore, these will provide huge potential for efficiency enhancement, improvement of environmental quality,. The reason is that, though blockchain, big data analytics, and the Internet of Things have shown great promise, their full potential in developing countries either needs robust infrastructure or further development. Furthermore, emerging technologies like 3D printing scoring 0.62, robotics scoring 0.61, and artificial intelligence scoring 0.6 have limiting factors like high costs and ethical considerations that raise dilemmas.
