Analysis of Relationships between Factors Affecting the Components of Rural Entrepreneurship Development Using Canonical Correlation Analysis (Case Study: Rural settlements west of Lake Urmia)

Abstract

Entrepreneurship is increasingly recognized as a generator of jobs and innovation, thus is a key component of economic growth. This is even more evident when we look at rural areas where joblessness is more evident than in urban areas. This research was conducted to investigate canonical correlation between factors affecting (X variables including economic, environmental, personal-managerial, socio-cultural, infrastructure, educational-promotional and technical factors) the components that determine entrepreneurial behavior (Y variables including success. risk, creativity, self-confidence, independence, entrepreneurship intentions) in rural settlements west of Lake Urmia to determine the variability between the two variables. The present research is descriptive-analytical type and applied in terms of purpose. The statistical population includes all households living on the western shore of Lake Urmia (N = 17738), of which 374 people (households) allocation were selected and studied as the study sample using the Cochran's formula and stratified multi-stage sampling with proportionate. The survey data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire that its validity and reliability were confirmed using face validity and Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The results of the correlation analysis showed that there is a good linear combination between the set of canonical variables of factors affecting the development of rural entrepreneurship and the components that determine entrepreneurial behavior in rural areas. Also, canonical analysis of two significant sets showed that economic (0.34), socio-cultural (0.68) and technical factors (0.35) have a significant relationship with risk (0.5), creativity (0.3) and independence (0.47). In other words, it can be concluded that by improving the situation of factors affecting the development of entrepreneurship in rural areas, we can see more entrepreneurial behaviors in rural areas.
