Abstract
The empirical evidences around the world show the impact of land use planning on the individual travel patterns .Accordingly, urban sprawl development is one of the controversial issues in the context of the relationship between urban form and travel pattern. Uncontrolled growth of cities combined with the lack of public transportation and the efficiency of land use planning cause to rise in daily car trips. In this regard, identifying the factors, which affect the urban sprawl, could be helpful in reducing car trips. In this paper, the role of urban sprawl in travel pattern of two residential areas has been studied. Travel pattern has been indicated by daily car trips. The primary data have been collected through questionnaire via households (n =250) and Statistical analysis has been used to define the relationship between daily car trips and urban sprawl. The results show that distance from shopping centers, jobs and leisure activities have a significant impact on daily car trips.
